Como melhorar a acústica da sala e ouvir melhor

You can have the best system in the world, but if the room does not cooperate, you will never hear it at its best. Room acoustics are the most underrated factor in high fidelity, and fortunately there is a lot you can improve without building work.

Why does the room affect the sound so much?

Because what you hear is not only the direct sound from the speakers, but also the reflections from the walls, ceiling and floor. Hard surfaces create echo and confusion; empty spaces exaggerate the bass. The room shapes the sound as much as the equipment does.

How can I improve it without building work?

A lot, with things you already have: a rug on the floor between you and the speakers reduces reflections; curtains and shelves full of books break up echo; a well-placed sofa absorbs sound. Moving the speakers slightly away from the walls usually cleans up the bass.

Where should I place the speakers?

As a starting point, form a roughly equilateral triangle between the two speakers and your listening position, with the speakers angled slightly toward you. Avoid pushing them against walls or into corners, which reinforce the bass excessively. Small adjustments of a few centimeters make an audible difference.

Is dedicated acoustic treatment worth it?

In dedicated or very difficult rooms, well-placed acoustic panels can transform the result. But in most cases, good positioning and a few absorbent elements already go a long way.

How do I know what my room needs?

By listening and experimenting. At my HI-FI HOUSE we help you understand how the room influences your system and what to adjust, because the best sound comes from the balance between equipment and space.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to fill the room with acoustic panels?

No. In most domestic rooms, rugs, curtains, bookshelves and good speaker positioning already solve much of the problem.

Is bass coloration the speakers' fault?

It is often the room, not the speakers. Corners and nearby walls reinforce the bass; moving the speakers away usually solves it.

Can you help me optimize my room?

Yes. We advise on positioning and treatment suited to your room, to get the most out of the system you already have.
