Description
The QLN One monitor speakers mark the beginning of QLN's truncated-pyramid design. The One debuted in 1981 at CES as the world's first truncated-pyramid loudspeaker. The cabinet shape is an original QLN design combining aesthetics with function. We are proud to reintroduce this important loudspeaker 40 years later as proof of QLN's commitment to advanced design and excellence in sound reproduction.
Official Features
Cabinet
A slanted front baffle ensures perfect time alignment between woofer and tweeter. The truncated-pyramid cabinet, with its minimised baffle area, suppresses any standing waves inside the cabinet while also delivering an improved three-dimensional image. By again basing the cabinet construction on Qln's unique Qboard® technology, structural resonances are greatly minimised. The trumpet-shaped bass reflex port eliminates air turbulence. The cabinet is heavily braced for rigidity, but we use damping pads to reduce internal resonances that distort sound in the time domain. Natural wool is used to further damp the internal acoustic chamber. We use a minimum of damping material, applied strategically.
Crossover
We use the same constant-impedance crossover technology as the Prestige series, fine-tuned for the compact two-way design. All coils are air-core and all capacitors are polypropylene. All coils are baked so the wires are glued together, reducing internal vibration. The constant-impedance crossover produces a uniform impedance response, which eases the load seen by the amplifier (especially valve amplifiers), providing better phase coherence for the driver. The crossover is hardwired for the best contact between components with as few contact points as possible. Each component is gently glued to increase damping and minimise vibration.
Drivers
The drivers were specifically selected and custom developed by us, together with Scandinavian manufacturers, to offer the latest in driver technology. The Reed paper-cone bass/midrange driver, with its copper ring built into the magnet system and titanium voice coil, offers symmetric drive and higher midrange dynamics while suppressing intermodulation distortion. This results in spectacular vocal reproduction and surprising micro/macro dynamics, uncommon in a compact 2-way design. The 25mm wide-surround tweeter offers excellent vocal presentation and exceptional imaging over a wide listening area. Its large roll surround, built-in copper ring and textile dome diaphragm ensure a flat frequency response above 30 KHz, with exceptional off-axis dispersion. The rear acoustic chamber provides low compression and reduces the tweeter's system resonance to well below the crossover point.
Cables and speaker connectors
Internal cabling is our own cable, specially designed and optimised for use inside the speaker. All components are carefully hand-selected and individually tested for deviations. Pure copper WBT Nextgen™ terminals are used, with grip-friendly screws.
