DALI is a Danish loudspeaker brand founded in 1983, and it answers two different needs with two ranges. Sonik is the series of classic living-room speakers, bookshelf and floorstanding, from €498 to €2,398 a pair. Phantom is the installation range: in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, on-wall versions, outdoor models, an in-wall subwoofer and DSP amplifiers, almost all of it sold per unit. This guide says who each model is for and how to plan a built-in installation without surprises on site.
Who DALI is
DALI stands for Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries. The company was born in 1983 in Nørager, Denmark, founded by Peter Lyngdorf, and still builds its speakers in the same country. Every range shares wide dispersion, which keeps the off-axis response balanced so the whole room hears well, and the wood-fiber cone in the bass and midrange drivers. Sonik: living-room speakers at an accessible price
Sonik is the entry series and inherits two technologies from the ranges above it: the Clarity Cone drivers, which come from the flagship KORE line, and the SMC magnet system, which lowers distortion. It comes in black, white, natural oak and walnut.
The Sonik 1, at €498, is the compact bookshelf: a 5¼-inch woofer, a 29 mm soft-dome tweeter and a response from 51 Hz to 26 kHz. It suits a small room or the surround channels of a home theater. The Sonik 3, at €698, moves the woofer up to 7 inches and is the choice for a room of 15 to 25 m² where you want a bookshelf without giving up bass.
The Sonik 5, at €998, is the slim floorstander for anyone who needs more scale than a bookshelf gives. The next step changes the product: the Sonik 7, at €1,498, pairs two 7-inch woofers with a hybrid tweeter, a planar magnetostatic unit plus a 29 mm dome, and reaches down to 36 Hz. The Sonik 9, at €2,398, has three 7-inch woofers, 90 dB sensitivity and 34 Hz of extension, and is the speaker for rooms of 30 m² or more.
The series is completed by the Sonik On-Wall, at €650 a pair, and the Sonik Cinema center, at €499 per unit, so that voices do not change timbre as they move from one speaker to another.

Phantom: built-in sound, in several rooms or outdoors
Phantom exists for people who do not want to see speakers. Almost everything is sold per unit: a stereo pair costs twice the listed price and a 5.1 system adds up to six pieces. The grilles come in white and can be painted.
The K-60, at €449, opens the K series, with a 28 mm tweeter, and accepts the Back-Can K-60 enclosure, which improves isolation between rooms. The K-60 LP, at €399, is the low-profile version for suspended ceilings with little depth, and the K-80, at €549, has the larger driver. The H series has the round H-60 R (€449) and H-80 R (€549). The IC M-80 A, at €799, has its drivers angled at 25° to aim the sound at the listening area under high ceilings.
For outdoors, the E-60 WR (€299) and E-80 WR (€399) are in-ceiling speakers with an IP65 rating, for porches, terraces and bathrooms. The Gardian OW-6, at €449, is the on-wall speaker for the garden: a 5-inch coaxial driver, an adjustable bracket and operation between -20 °C and +70 °C, in black or white.
A serious home theater goes to the M and S series, in-wall speakers. The M-250 (€899), the M-375 (€1,299) and the M-675 (€2,199) make up the M family; the S-80 (€1,999), the S-180 (€2,999) and the S-280 (€4,999) make up the S family, with passive radiators for deep bass. All of them exist in an On-Wall version, with a frame, for when the wall cannot be opened, from the M-250 On-Wall (€1,198) to the S-280 On-Wall (€5,498). Bass is handled by the IW Sub S-100, at €1,449, with a 10-inch long-stroke driver, which requires external amplification.
That amplification comes from the Phantom CI amplifiers. The AMP-4125 DSP, at €1,999, has four channels of 125 W, 70 and 100 V line outputs for multi-zone systems and DSP presets for each Phantom speaker. The AM-2500 DSP (€2,199) and the AMP-4750 DSP (€4,195), the top of the range, carry the same presets.

How to plan a built-in installation
A built-in speaker is decided before the plaster goes on. The E-60 WR needs a cutout 22.5 cm in diameter and 9.95 cm deep; the K-60 LP exists because not every suspended ceiling has that clearance. Cable has to run to every point and, in a multi-zone system, back to the equipment closet where the amplifier lives. Anyone with the sofa against the wall should think about the IC M-80 A. The right move is to talk to us with the floor plan in hand, before the electrician closes the walls. Frequently asked questions
Are DALI Phantom speakers sold per pair or per unit?
Almost all per unit. A stereo pair of K-60 costs €898 and a 5.1 system adds up to five speakers plus the subwoofer. In the Sonik range only the Cinema center is sold per unit.
Do I need a special amplifier for built-in speakers?
No. A K-60 or an H-60 R connects to any integrated amplifier or receiver. The Phantom CI amplifiers make sense with several rooms, 100 V lines or M and S speakers, which benefit from the DSP presets.
Which DALI speakers can I put outdoors?
The Gardian OW-6 is the on-wall speaker for the garden, terrace or pool and works between -20 °C and +70 °C. The Phantom E-60 WR and E-80 WR are the built-in versions with an IP65 rating, for porches, covered balconies and bathrooms.
